Water Filters

Operation Amazon has funded the construction of a small water filter factory in Manaus, Brazil. This factory will have the capacity to fabricate 2 or more filters per day with just one or two employees.

Construction of the filter factory began in June of 2005 and the first two filters were made on Thanksgiving Day of 2005. Each of these filters is made of concrete and is filled with gravel and sand that filters suspended materials and silt, as well as removes the bacteria and parasites that are so harmful to the people of the Amazon. These filters cost only $45 to build and deliver to a remote jungle village. Once installed, these filters can provide approximately 1 liter of water per minute - enough to provide fresh water for up to four families.

These filters have no metal and no moving parts and are therefore very durable and long-lasting in spite of the harsh conditions of the year-round tropical heat and humidity in the jungles of the Amazon river area. There are millions of people in the Amazon jungles with no source of fresh water. If you are interested in helping us with the construction of more filters with a financial gift, please click here. We are grateful for your participation, and all financial gifts are tax deductible.

The following is from Lori Kannenberg, wife of the missionary pilot who also oversees that water filter project for Operation Amazon:
"The first two filters where built the 22nd of November. We have scheduled for the first delivery between February and March and we would like to deliver 50 in the interior of the city of Borba. The second city up on the Madeira River. Exciting isn't it?! Wilson talked to the mayor and has worked it out for the municipality to provide a boat for transportation this time until we are able to get one of our own."

"This is a ministry that is going to cover more than 10,000 kids plus pastors to begin with. There will be instruction given in each place for maintenance of the filters and the Gospel of Jesus the living water will be shared. The mayor went to the church with us and loves all the ministries we do there. He is going to visit the factory and is so glad help is coming to his people. Borba is a 24 hour boat ride (fast) into the interior of the Amazon. (45 min. by plane) This is an area where we have ministries and clinic trips so we have a continued impact on evangelism and discipleship."
